Shanghai-ed!

3:08 AM

Guess the trip to London will be postponed to a later date since...

Many thanks to friends C and R who booked my flights, I was able to take advantage of the great 10-10-10 seat sale of Cebu Pacific Airlines. I purchased tickets - Manila to Shanghai, Beijing to Manila -  for P3000. Though the trip is scheduled for March 2011, I can hardly wait! I've  always wanted to walk along the Great Wall!

Now, the question is where am I going to stay in Shanghai? My former editor R suggested I should pick a hotel/ hostel in the Pudong area. Any leads?

I searched for a hostel at http://www.hostelworld.com/ and here's what I got:

SHANGHAI KOALA GARDEN HOUSE

Shanghai Koala Graden House facade

Shanghai Koala Graden House room

The only type of room available during my stay is a basic double bed private without a bathroom and window. Yikes! I hate rooms without windows! They're scary!!! But I have to say, the price isn't that frightening - P601.27 a night.

Though this suggestion looks promising...

BEE HOME INTERNATIONAL YOUTH HOSTEL

BIRD'S EYE VIEW OF BEE HOME HOSTEL

This hostel is located in the Pudong district. There are several types of room available room during my stay. The cheapest would be a P409.96 a night BED, in an 8 bed female dorm ensuite. Another option would be a twin private ensuite that goes for P778.92 a night.

I yet have to purchase my Lonely Planet Shanghai Encounter guide book so there would more options to choose from.  But between these two, I'm leaning towards the second hostel.

PS.
I hope this trip doesn't set me back as much as the Oz trip because... there's still London calling.
