FREE admission to the National Art Gallery

2:05 PM

Good news, everybody!

The National Art Gallery is opening its doors to the public for free in celebration of Museums and Galleries Month this October. The second and third floors had undergone extensive renovation last August 18 to September 30 in preparation for the said occasion.

The National Art Gallery is open from Tuesdays to Saturdays.

I think the National Art Gallery is one of the nicest places in entire Metro Manila. The building itself, the Old Legislavtive Building, is a such a beauty and not to mention, historical. On its steps, Manuel L. Quezon was sworn into office as the President of the Commonwealth. In a recent article on, we included it as one of the ten most beautiful pre-war structures in Manila. Then of course, there are the treasures safeguarded within its walls.

In fact, I actually spent a very lovely afternoon last Valentine's Day admiring all that art. In case you've missed it, here's my post. You see, I am quite the frustrated visual artist. Sure, I can draw a dress, a car, or a house - just like any third grader.  That's the extent of my ability. So, I am only too happy when I am in the presence of greatness.

I believe Juan Luna's 'Spolarium' is enough reason to drive all the way to Luneta. Have you seen it in real life? It's one colossal piece of art! Add the works of other Filipino Masters like Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo's 'La Tragedia de Gorbernador Bustamante', Vicente Manansala's 'Planting of the First Cross', or the sketches of Fernando Amorsolo. Then, throw in the free admission this month and I think that makes for quite a compelling argument.

No more excuses! Hightail to the National Art Gallery this October. It's the perfect time to go.
